Eons ago, the
land of Uhrldnot had fallen under the despotic rule of the Women of
Uhrldnot. They controlled the land with wily and mystic ways,
stripping the land of its riches, running roughshod over the rights
of the people. They treated any affront to their rule with a terrific
savagery, yet there were still those who resisted and dreamed of
better days. These fighters became known as the BOARs.
At first, their resistance was sporadic and unorganized, but as time passed they learned that by banding together they could do more to thwart the rule of the WOWs. This time in history became known as the BOAR Wars.
The Battle of Uze
On the borders of Uhrldnot there existed the land of Uze, a barbaric and uncivilized place that the BOARs frequently found refuge in. Certain of the BOAR Nobles collected the scattered bands of BOARs and prepared to openly challange the rule of the WOWs in Uhrldnot. Knowing that the despotic tyrants had legions of minions, the Nobles sought allies amongst the peoples of Uze. Tho the common folk of Uze were seafarers (for it lay along the shore of the vast sea) and were most commonly known for their nets, the CityState of Alt and the mystics of Deja both promised support.
So the Nobles gathered their forces, armed and trained them and fielded an army, tho small and untested in battle, it was committed to the cause of freeing Uhrldnot. Ever watchful for threats to their rule, the WOWs also raised a massive army of passive minions and marched into Uze to seek out the BOAR army and destroy this insult to their power.
As it came to pass, the WOWs and BOARs met on a grassy plain just inside the border of Uze. Both sides encamped, the WOW army being scattered over its line of march and the BOARs hurridly sending couriers to summon their allies. The wizards of Deja refused to honour their agreement. Their sages, forever studying the archives of Uze, had come to the conclusion that their tomes showed that the efforts of the BOARs were doomed. They denied to come to the aid of the men, and as history showed, this was not the last time that the tomes of Deja would not be prophetic. However, the troops from Alt had already massed when they learned of the WOW armies movements, and were known to be just a days march away.
That night , as both armies clustered around their campfires, the Nobles had a council of war and determined that there was still a chance of defeating the WOW legions with just the Alt allies, so accordingly they made arrangements to array their forces for attack in the morning.
The day broke, and promised to be dull and overcast, with a cold wind blowing from the north. The BOARs were cheered however, as the troops of Alt had arrived during the night and were also girding for battle. They moved into a battle line and deployed thier troops to face the expected mass charges from the WOW troops. But, the devious WOWs had again thwarted the BOARs, they had bribed the leaders of Alt and had arranged for them to array their forces AGAINST the men of BOAR to strike them in the flank as their own army faced the BOAR's front.
The Nobles of BOAR, being wary of the treacherous nature of Alt, had prepared for this eventualty however, and soon the orders were given to begin an orderly withdrawal from their battle line for as it was, the Alt army commanded the entire flank of their positions. A certain Noble of the BOARs, Edward of the Lee of Kell, was chosen to command the rear guard.
Before the withdrawal could begin, the WOWs , who had massed their troops with the morning light, launched their army into a frontal assault. Even tho they knew that there would be serious casualties with this strategy, they decided it was best to pin the BOAR army in this manner and allow the Alt army to encircle their enemies. With grim determination, and only facing one enemy, the men of BOAR slowed, stopped and then could have even pushed the WOW minions back, but with their flank exposed to the Alt army which was moving into position. So the Nobles of BOAR quickly ordered a continued withdrawal.
Seeing their enemies slipping away, the WOWs once more threw their forces into battle and this time were joined by the troops of Alt. Edwards small BOAR command valiantly fought on, repulsing attack after attack, splitting the enemy forces, slaughtering hundreds of WOW minions and Alt soldiers. While their main army marched further and further from the scene of the battle, the troops under Edward managed to stall the enemies advance just long enough. They suffered grievious casualties in doing so, but it was this day that saw the beginning of Edward's rise to glory.
A lull in the assaults of the enemy allowed Edward to withdraw what was left of his troops from the face of the disorganized WOW army, for there were few left now, and another assault would surely have overwhelmed him. The troops of Alt could have stopped him and trapped the remnant of his command, but they did not for reasons that remain unknown to this day. It is said that this was their own undoing, and was actually the decision that saved the BOAR army from a long and drawn out campaign for which they were not prepared. Elements of the WOW legions did attempt to pursue the BOAR troops but were repulsed with bloody losses.
As night fell the BOAR army, still mostly intact, encamped miles away from the battle, and were joined throughout the night by the pitiful few survivors of the rear guard. The WOW and Alt troops camped on the edge of the scene of the battle, and tho the field was theirs it was not without a heavy cost and their hopes of crushing the BOAR rebellion in one swift blow were gone.
That night, as the men of the BOARs told the first tales of the legendary (for that is what he would become) Edward of the Lee of Kell, (or Edward Kell Lee as he became to be called) the WOWs decided to extract their revenge on the troops of Alt over their failure to stop the retreat of the BOARs. That night, they fell upon the Alt encampment and slaughtered all who were within. By the time it was all over, the legions of WOW were of such a state the further battles with the BOARs would not neccessarily be victorious. So, as the men of BOAR marched into the wilds of Uze, again searching for allies and time to strengthen their ranks, the army of the WOWs withdrew into Uhrldnot. So ended the Battle of Uze, which is considered to be the first battle of the BOAR Wars.
