The First Siege of Elp

Edward Kell Lee, knowing that an advance upon the City of Elp would cause the WOWs to repond with all their legions, had to muster all the BOAR armies together. In this he was aided by Michael D'Ownes a BOAR noble who was intrumental in the operation of the BOAR couriers and message carriers.

Michael D'Ownes set about to gather the forces of the BOAR, without letting the WOW minions gain knowledge as to the plans. The BOAR forces were gathered near the Temple of Squirt, in the gardens there (that still exist to this day), a scant 100 leagues from Elp itself. To maintain the illusion that the BOAR forces were still active elsewhere, the Marquis of Leo led another foray into Chatland, the plan being that once the City of Elp had been reached by the main army, the Marquis would bring the forces under his command to aid in the subdueing of the city.

At the time of year for the harvest, when WOW forces were scattered about Uhrldnot, collecting the taxes the Women of Uhrldnot subjected the people to, the BOAR army left the gardens of the Temple of Squirt, and marched upon the City of Elp. The legions of WOW were taken completely by surprise and did not contest the advance of the BOAR army.

In but 2 weeks, the BOARs stood outside the walls of Elp, and set about to encircle the city to prevent the WOWs from reinforcing their troops there. Tho stoutly garrissoned, the city was woefully unprepared for a siege, as the WOWs had depended upon their mobile armies to come to it's aid if threatened. They had not foreseen the BOARs massing all their strength in one place.

The first assaults by the BOAR army did not gain the walls, however, and both sides prepared for a longer siege. The men, outside the walls had the advantage however, as the land about Elp was rich and could supply them with what materials they needed. While the City had its forges, they were of little value without the numbers of the WOW minions to use their output.

Edward Kell Lee, his army now bolstered by the arrival of the troops from Chatland under the Marquis set about to find the weakness in the walls of the beisiged city. With all but a small portion of the BOARs, as some had been dispatched with Michael D'Ownes to prevent outiside interference, the city was beset upon all sides. Several weeks went by, with no success in breaching the stout walls, and Edward was alerted to the presence of a WOW relief army being massed near the capital of Uhrldnot, the palace city of Wurd. Knowing that his army stood little chance if the WOW legions could catch him outside the city walls, Edward had to risk all in the taking of the city.

The constant attacks on the walls had revealed a weakness in the WOW fortifications, the area behind Mambers Forum (which stood outside the city proper) was weakly fortified with few towers and even more ,was lightly manned by WOW troops. Tho the WOW controlled the forum, it was not seen as a likely avenue of approach to the city and the troops here had been reduced in an effort to reinforce other areas of the city. Taking all but a handful of BOARs from the siege lines ringing the city, Edward decided to throw his troops at the forum, and then onto the city rangeing behind it. To keep the WOWs from guessing his intentions, no siege weapons were to be used in the assault, the BOARs would have to do it without the aid of catapults, balistas, siege towers and battering rams.

In the light of the early morn, the BOARs gathered in the streets nearby the forum and in the gullies that led to the area from the west. At a signal the BOARs, as one, rose to the attack. The few WOW troops in Mambers Forum were overwhelmed by the mass of the BOAR army, and fled into the city. They were closely followed and several sortie gates that led under the walls were captured. The BOARs concentrated on pushing all their troops into the city through these portals. In a matter of hours, the WOW troops, demorilized by the sight of BOARs inside the city proper, ended all resitance - the City of Elp had been taken!
