Trying again

About...

...me

I like almost everything. And I'm wondering if I can edit this page once it's published.

I guess not. At least not with the Personal Page editor. I was doing this from the HTML editor until it became too bothersome because there's no word wrap in the editing window. :(

And I'd so like to play with the Personal Page editor again without having to start all over.

Meanwhile, here's the link to my WorldNet home page, and one to the rest of my web empire. Hosted by @ATT.NET and betatesters.com.

... my family

My wife, Katherine, is beautiful, intelligent, loving, an artist, and is understandably jealous of my 'puter. She is a children's librarian at the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh. I have a little story about us that I have shamelessly published on the web.

My older son, William, is 16. He loves to read, loves to play and watch baseball and soccer, loves to work and play on the 'puter and the Internet, loves to travel to different cities, and he is usually an all 'round great kid.

My younger son, Matthew, is 13 and does not yet have a web page. He does read a lot and play on the 'puter tho', and plays baseball and soccer and basketball, and he's also studying Irish Dance. He too is generally an excellent child.

At last count I have twenty relatives in the USA and Ireland with Internet e-mail addresses, and eight adult relatives (plus seven children) in Ireland without Internet access -- yet. I don't know how many relatives I have who do not have e-mail addys and who are not in Ireland.

... my work

I found an outlet for my anarchistic and antinomian tendencies in the field of criminal law as an Assistant Federal Public Defender. It is a dream job: It's hard, exciting work, with a real sense of mission. I've been having a ball ever since I started as an investigator in 1979, and after leaving for 6 years of private practice in 1983-1989, I came back and am now pompously titled Senior Litigation Counsel. The mix of book work, street work, teaching, and a bit of theater fits my personality to a "T". Hey, where else can an argumentative person with delusions of heroism, obsessive-compulsive personality, captivated by empathy, and driven by a strong anti-authoritarian bent, make a legitimate living? ("make lots of money," "enjoy the work," "operate within the law:" choose 2)

... my interests

I love reading, hiking & canoeing, my church, and playing the piano. These are not casual interests, either.

Dame Fortune and her Wheel, see also The Monk's Tale I studied medieval and Renaissance English literature for seven years, and used to read five or six novels a month before discovering the Internet in late 1994 -- now I'm doing well to read one novel a month and some poems, when Dame Fortune permits.

I've hiked the Appalachian Trail and the high peaks of the Adirondacks for a month, the Smokies for a week, the Gaspé Peninsula and Allegheny National Forest each for two weeks, and taken a canoe for a month on the Chibougamou River, Lake Opemesca and Lake Mistassini in Quebec near the latitude of Georgian Bay (off the southern tip of Hudson Bay).

I have been in the East Liberty Presbyterian Church since I was born in 1953, my grandfather having joined ELPC when he moved to Pittsburgh in 1937. I have been a Deacon and a Trustee, and have been in one choir or another there since 1963.

I studied classical piano for 20 years, and now I've gotta run hard to keep up.

... my likes

I like me, my family, my work, and my interests. I even like my dislikes.

Oh. I tremendously like the Internet and William Blake in about equal measure of absorption, I suppose.

... my dislikes

Spam, and uh .... cookies? And nowadays the war on drugs gets my goat.

... whatever else
